I've been photographing Barn Owls for the last 5 years but have always failed to get one perched up close enough for a decent shot. This one was putting on a great show and i was happy when it sat within range, no hide was used.
All critique good or bad appreciated.
Lovely capture, Neil. I would be tickled pink just to see one of these gorgeous owls. I think you did well with the side lighting, and I find your perch and BG quite pleasing and they both complement your subject nicely.
They are such beautiful birds. Very strong sidelighting gives def. sense of form to the bird, at the expense of lost detail in the shadows. Just a whisper of fill flash would have been interesting.
Is this a stone fence post? Lots of interesting texture, without screaming hand of man.
Interesting perch for sure, looks like part of an old ruin. Beautiful BG, and the side lighting works well. I'm wondering about toning down the brightest whites on the face. Very neat overall!
