    Default Brown Thrasher

Any comments on how to bring the bird out of the branches. I think that at the very least the one across the upper right corner needs to be removed, but not sure about the large branch across the image to the right of the thrasher. I also wonder is a slightly differnent crop would be better.

    Thanks,
    Colin

Hi Colin , I would remove the two , without any leaves too see how it looks ,but probably, if it were me remove everything to the right of the bird ,may even tighten the crop , But then again I always crop way too tight . I like the shot ,and the fact the Thrasher is in a tree ,( Most times I see them on the ground here ) .

Hi Colin, twiggy environments are tough. This image has a lot going for it- good pose, nice lighting, solid exposure/capture technical execution and good background separation. I feel the camera to subject distance is the real culprit here as the bird doesn't occupy enough of the frame. Cropping tighter might be an alternative (not knowing how much has already been removed)-and then removing the odd distraction here or there.

Thanks fo the comments. I really like the tighter crop, it brings the thrasher out much better. I think that one of my biggest weaknesses is in the area of composition. I think I can, in general, take a technically competent image, but knowing what to remove and how to place the subject sometimes gives me problems. I understand the rule of thirds, but I really have problems looking at an image from the point of a viewer and not the photographer (if that makes sense).

I like the tighter crop too Colin, and have the same compositional issues. Nice thrasher!
