The perch is a branch of a fallen over tree.

I like the good detail and the clear BG here. Nice flash work too. I am not sure about the leaf, though it gives the autumn mood. You must have been very close, that the DOF wasn't good enough for the feet. Did you use a blind?

    Karl:

Your bird is sharp, nice pose, good BG (I might tone the brightest green streak up towards his rump

The colors of the leaf are perfect, but it is pretty beat up. Does evoke a sense of late fall, but not terribly pretty, which is OK.

    Cheers

    Thanks, Lorant.
No I wasn't in a blind. The bird was fairly close. There were three of them coming and going.
We, my wife and I, were feeding Chickadees and Nuthatches from our hand and took shots of less common birds like the one I posted.

Thanks, Randy. I was thinking about the leaf.
It's a dead tree and a dead leaf.
Still it might be better than a bare branch I thought. I might give it a try and clone it out to see how it looks.

This is a strong image, Karl. You have a great pose and good IQ, lovely BG and the dead leaf works well here.

Lovely lighting Karl, sharp, good HA and I love that BG with splashes of green against the warmer tones. The dead leaf (resembling tree bark here) dangling over the perch works very well IMO.

I too like the leaf.....which surprised me. I think it adds to the overall impact. I originally felt like Randy on the grass? as well.....but could go either way. All in all a very nice image!

Hi Karl oodles of detail and colour to look at on this fellows head - sharp too. Comp works, and I also like the colours in the BG.
