Ken, I love Reddish Egrets. Their antics while hunting, are some of the funniest I've ever seen. If you could have shot it at a lower angle and not so centered, I think it would improve the composition. You might try a crop taking some off the bottom and left side to see how that works. The light looks a bit harsh on my monitor, so shooting either earlier or later would help with that. You nailed focus and DOF is good. I also like you got one on the beach. I always see them in the water, so this is a new look at one for me. :)
High Ken ,Great suggestions already ,I would also (If it were mine ) remove the shadow as well as all the small rubbish /cig butts etc .around the bird . I think you handled some very harsh light extremely well . By removing the shadow it may conceal evidence of harsh /contrasting light . Heck, just getting the bird and not a aggravating passer-by in frame , is a job well done at Sanible . LOL . On a side note ,Did you go to Ding Darling ,If so can you give a report on how the wildlife is . My last trip , there wasn't much in comparison to earlier years .
Hi Ken,
Very nice capture in harsh light. Looks like you were able to get pretty close to this guy.
As mentioned by Jeannen, getting down at eye level would have really taken this image to the next level. It might take getting down on one knee or even laying down, but most of the time it's worth it.
If you have the time, it would be great to get a "report" on Sanibel and Ding Darling.
