Wildlife Image of the Week for the week ending October 12th, 2012: Laurie Golden - Pacing the shore
Congratulations Laurie!
This elk had been staying in the woods sharpening his antlers while his cows headed for the river until he decided to join the them - perhaps to stop them from crossing. He walked back and forth in the water and on this island and persuaded the cows to say on his side of the river all the time persuading all of the photographers to run up and down the steep bank of the river to get their shots and avoid his charges. Of course by then we were between him and the ladies. He was always backlit or sidelit late in the day but we always try for any water shot. I'm sorry I cut the tops of the trees off but there was always to many things to think about and I missed zooming back. I like this photo because of the lighting and the parallel view of his antlers.
