Took this last winter at a oasis spot in the southern California desert. Its a little park in the middle of the desert that birders and photographers flock to to catch a glimpse of these beautiful little birds. Got lucky and found this male. Couldnt get to close but got close enough to get a couple keepers. Do the two flower tops on the left help the image. I kinda like them. What do you think about the comp?

Thanks as always for looking and your input. Appreciated

    David

Hi David, excellent capture, love the perch and also kind of like the two on the LHS. If this is not a big crop, would try a vertical composition. I also like the smoth dark BG. Would add another round of sharpening, good work.

    David:
Excellent image. Very nice colors, perch and nice backdrop.
Composition looks good with two other perches...might says, waiting for the partner.
Otherwise I will go for vertical composition.Image has lost a bit of details in red due to big crop.
    I love the frame.

    Regards,
    Satish.

Hi David, lovely rich reds on this fellow, and you have captured a good HA. If this were mine, I would have left out the two other perches ( just a personal thing ) and going vertical would definately work as suggested above. It seems like you have run NR on the flycatcher, but I could be wrong.

Thanks everyone for the comments and feedback. Just opened up the page and noticed that it looks like something might have happened during conversion. The original was sharper and clearer. Try to fix and re-post later. Thanks and Sorry.

Great capture of an uncommon species. If it were mine, I would have gone vertical. Appreciate the creativity of including the two flowers. Had they been on the side the bird was looking, the comp may have been stronger.

Another vote for vertical - though I enjoyed Satish's comment about the empty space and the two flower heads suggesting that the flycatcher was waiting for a partner. Some sort of splotchiness in the bg - possible to blur? That red on green is very dramatic and the oof patch below the bird seems to direct our attention to it. Serendipitous.

    Great shot.
I really like the pose, great perch and background.
I also vote for a vertical crop.
    Well done.
