    Default Snow Bunting, Winter Plumage.

With the body angling slightly away this is a great pose to study the back and side plumage, and the fact I got a great head angle makes for a great bonus! Here I am looking slightly down on the subject, with the BG being the Ottawa River that is about an 8-10 foot drop from the subject's perch (no danger, I was on solid ground).

Canon 7D + 100-400L @310mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, almost full-frame (~85% FF), darkened the URC as a breaking wave created a distracting white area up there.

Hi Dan, well done for waiting for the perfect HA, and not only does this pose show off the colours as you stated, the soft light has done its magic too. Nice and sharp, and nicely placed against the river BG. I would maybe clean up the edge of the rock perch in the LRC.

This is one on my favourite bird poses - more-or-less perpendicular to camera, back showing and head cocked toward photographer. Add a nice smooth background and a simple perch and you have a strong visual element focussed on the subject. And, of course, great techs. Very nice Daniel. What is that yellowish wash in the cracks of the rock?

Great field craft and capture, Dan! I love this plumage with the browns and the HA is sweet! I rarely get to see one of these guys down here!

This one is head and shoulders better than the previous post.
Great background color to show this beauty against. Excellent dof to cover the entire subject.
Also, nice clearance of the body from the rock...this species can really hunker down at times,
so besides the great view of the bird, I like that it's standing up a bit...

Thanks guys! Dan, I believe it is some sort of fungi or mossy growth...most rocks had them. My previous post has it too, and even more prominent.

Another nice look at this fellow.
I think moving it left just tad and taking some off the right would look nice.

What a sweet little bird Daniel - I love the pose and HA, and yes this pose does exhibit the back and side plumage very well. The rocky perch and soft OOF water of the BG make for a very attractive composition.
