    Hi Everyone,

Long time no talk to. Got a close encounter with a short-eared owl the other day.

Self critique: Light coming from the wrong direction but I took the shot anyway.

    Canon EOS-1D Mark4, 500mm F/4, 1/800, f/4.5 ISO640

    Take care and good light,

    Steve

Nice work Steve, not sure if this could benefit from a little more room on the left hand side if you have the space. Details look good but I am looking at this on a pretty lousy monitor at work.

I wouldn't pass it up either. Perhaps lighten the face just a bit.

You did a good job with the light. Love the flight angle and detail. I would soften the background.

    Hi Guys,
Thanks for the comments. It is over half frame so I could still play with the placement a bit. Just looking at it again I can't figure out how the eyes got so bright. No extra enhancement on this end.

    Hi Alan,
Thanks for the comment. The background did seem quite a bit smoother in the original larger version. Wondering if I got some sort of weird stuff going on during the optimization in P.S.

Nice image Steve! I like the flight angle, eyes, details and complimentary BG. I would have taken the shot too and been happy with it.

This looks pretty good considering the light angle, good thing you took the image! I agree with more room at left, and I see what Alan means about the BG...perhaps a compression issue.

I actually think the lighting is sort of cool.
The eyes are lit up and it looks mysterious and moody.

    Hi Again Guys,
Here is a re-make with a bit more room to the left. Background still not looking quite right though.
