The Red-browed Finch was attarcted to a feeder. The empty seed-pods of the Kurrajong tree also provide convenient receptacles to place some millet seed.

Really cute and sharp little bird and great composition and background. Very clever of you to hide his food in such a nice perch.

Beautiful bird and shot. Color, BG, exposure, detail and perch are great. Nice comp and setup too. Great work. Is it a little over sharpened? Maybe just me.

    John:

Love the composition/perch/pods. It does look significantly overshaprened to me, very crunchy looking on the fine feather details in some areas, yet not very sharp on the shoulder. A little too bright for me as well.

Based on the shutter speed and f/stop, perhaps some motion blur in some areas as part of the problem.

    The comp again is lovely.

    Cheers

The comp and colours look very good, and I like your subject and perch (nifty idea placing the seeds there too!). Beautiful BG. Yes to oversharpened and much too contrasty IMO. Reprocessing this would;d give you a gem of an image as the foundation is there to work on.

Hi John, lovely colours on the finch, and your comp works well. Both finch and the pods pop really well from your smooth BG, and agree, maybe toning down the contrast will work. Great set up BTW.

Another vote for backing off on contrast and sharpness. This has all the elements of a fantastic image, I would love to see it reposted with those adjustments. The perch, colors, BG, comp and pose of bird are all winners.

That repost is nice! Pretty bird, interesting perch and seeds. I might reduce the shine on the bill a bit.

The repost is nice, a think a bit smaller in the frame would look good.

it's a great shot with nice BG, colors and a unique perch. repost addresses the contrasty original but the shoulder still looks sharper than the head. selectively sharpening the head might help here.

    great work, TFS

I like the pose, perch, BG and composition. I really like the perches you are using in these set-ups. Repost looks better. A real beauty John!
