It looks like as if it was blown but it was all right. I still burned the highlights to make it look better.
    Thanks for looking.

    Karl:

The bird is sweet, sharp, well exposed. Soft BG. I like the texture of the perch, but it seems a bit odd that none of it is really sharp, but perhaps the focus on the head threw it all out of focus. The feet look somewhat sharper than the perch however.

I would like just a bit more space below the perch on the left side.

    Cheers

That is one sweet image Karl - Sharp, good pose and HA. This great BG and lichen covered perch complete the composition nicely.

Thanks Randy, If I remebeer correct, I selected the perch and the bird originally. When it came to sharpening, I de-selected the perch and sharpened the bird only.
It might not have been the greates idea.
My thinking was; let's make the bird really pop. I'll go back select the perch only and will sharpen it and post it here.

    Karl:

It does make the bird pop, but looks a smidge unnatural, that is what caught my eye. I would probably do a little sharpening on the perch, but perhaps not as much as on the bird.

    Cheers

    Hi Karl,
Regarding the DOF issue, I found myself encountering that a lot when small birds were relatively close, and I was shooting F/4 or 5.6.

When I shot at 7.1., the DOF was much more forgiving and I got extended detail that I was previously lacking. That one stop made quite a difference. And the bokeh hardly suffered, if the BG was far enough away.

    Just a thought.

The extra sharpening of the perch makes a huge difference. Appealing image, and I agree with some extra room below (the lowest dip of the branch is quite close to the edge). Beautiful colours and details.

Hi Karl, fluffy little fellow, well exposed and sharp. The perch does look better in your repost, and the goldfinch still pops from the BG.

Cute bird on an attractive perch, but do miss seeing a hint of a tail.
ISO 800 with some stopping down of the f-stop seems very reasonable, especially
    considering your gear's quality....
