    Default Blue Jay.

These guys can be very nervous (I can't even begin to approach them at the cottage), but at certain spots they just wait in line for shelled peanut handouts. This particular place is such the case, and I like to take advantage of it by creating a few setups for them to pose onto and in front of.

Canon 7D + 100-400L @340mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/400s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, lightened and saturated the perch which was rendered too pale with a correct exposure of the subject.

As common as they are, I find this species very tough to get a good image of. Your image is stunning with great plumage and a great pose.

These are really handsome birds; so common they are underappreciated and often poorly photographed. This is lovely, with great perch and BG, good PP work. I might only wish for a tiny bit less head turn.

Hi Dan, good eye level perspective, and what a great alert pose you have captured here - love the extended neck. I really like the colours on these Jay's, and your perch has lots of character. What is your BG?

This one's been on my wishlist, hope I get a decent one of it sometime.
That headturn and perch work well here. Some wonderful soft light to top it up

Very Nice! Love the pose and the contrasting BG. The exposure and detail on this one are beautiful and the Jay is in great shape. Great Job!. One of my favorites.

A beautiful portrayal of the Blue Jay Daniel - love the pose and HA, great BG and the weathered, textured perch works well.

Very nice Dan, - useful info for the perch I have similar logs and they have been problematical in the past but now you have given me food for thought!
