    Fish, that is..

The Terns at the estuary I frequent have a neat behavior that is fun to try to photograph. They catch a fish, fly up high in the sky, drop it and dive down and catch it in the air. I think they do it to get rid of the moss and weeds that are grabbed when they catch a fish. They may do this 2-3 times after a catch. Fun to watch.

Thanks as always for looking and your input. Appreciated

    David

Excellent pose and behavior. The exposure work looks good.
The fine details look sparce on the subject. Size of crop?

Thanks for the comments everyone. Yes Shawn, it is a pretty big crop. Havent been able to catch this behavior very close to me, something to shoot for next summer. Posted this for fun and the action caught. Thanks again.

Hi David, Im sure its not easy to capture this, as the Terns are probably diving at quite a speed to 'recapture' their catch. Having said that, well done for at least getting him in the frame. I like the inflight pose of the Tern, and that the fish is separated from the bill.

    David:

Great action, like the story, crop limits IQ but still an enjoyable image.

    Cheers

    Excellent behavior shot, David.
I was watching a juvi Ring-billed Gull, doing more or less this with a piece of wood; dropping it and catching it repeatedly.
I watched a juvi Red-tailed Hawk once, playing with a Walnut like object repeatedly.
I guess they are eather having fun or honing their hunting skills.

excellent love the dynamic pose and nice details. I would do a finer sharpening to remove those halos (it happens when you use a coarse sharpening)

Thanks again everyone for the comments and thanks Arash for the sharpening tips. Still figuring out how much for each pic looks best for the web. Finer might be the trick. Karl, ya I have seen other birds do this with sticks and I think they are playing or learning skills.
