Default Detailed Portrait of a Gray Kingbird

Today I was finetuning/microadjusting my Sigma 150-500. It needed a +3 setting at the 500mm FL range. Soon after I wanted to test my results in the real world, so I stepped into my backyard. This little guy seemed like he was in the mood for some cooperation so I took a few of him. Turns out the adjusting paid off! The PP involved the usual contrast enhancement, curves, noise reduction and sharpening. I also cloned out some twigs and leafs.

    Exif:

    Canon 7D
    Sigma 150-500mm
    FL: 500mm
    ISO: 320
    f/8
    Shutter Speed: 1/1000
    PP: L4/Photoshop CS5

Comments and critiques will be appreciated!

    Hi Oscar,
Good job getting a close up of this bird. The eye is well defined. As far as improving the image, I think the main thing is the steep angle of the shot. More of an eye level view would make the image more appealing to me. I also notice noise in the background. Was this a heavy crop?

Heavy crop indeed. The bird was shot at my backyard, up in a tree (low branch) so that is the reason of the angle. Rarely these birds will come down from trees since they basically love to catch insects up in midair from a high vantage point of view.

The image works as a test for your micro-adjustment but as a standalone it is too steep, too tight, and the detail is showing signs of the heavy crop. Glad you got your adjustments done well, now you have piece of mind in regards to that.
