    Default UNIDENTIFIED SPARROW

I think this little one is a juvenile. I find the ID difficult. Usually, wire perches are taboo; however, the cow hair cushions were too cool to pass up. The image is from mid August in the Centennial Valley on the Idaho Montana border. A partly cloudy day. Nikon D7000, Nikkor 600mm, f 9.0 [ just finished shooting a flock of sage grouse and wanted more depth of field ], 1/500, EV +1, iso 800, bean bag on truck window, distance 15 meters. Big crop, approx 20% of original. C $ C appreciated.

    GARY:

I think this is a very effective image, and although I generally hate barbed wire, the cow fur does give it a different and unique look.

The IQ held up pretty well for such a big crop. Well exposed, perhaps a sliver over sharpened for my taste. Good head position.

The overall color palette works very well.

    Cheers

Hey Gary, I agree that the cow hairs make up for the wire perch. Nice pose and BG. I believe this is a juvenile Brewer's Sparrow.

This a neat shot of another attractive US sparrow..!! I agree Gary the tufts of cattle hair really adds to the composition and compensates for the wire fence. Well seen and taken.

Definitely a keeper with the cow tufts on the barbed wire. Good clean BG, nice position of the bird. Cute sparrow that I've never seen before. IQ held up pretty well - was this 20% of original area? or width?

Alan, thanks for the ID. He who knows sparrows, knows birds.
