The high wind added interest to the plumage causing the unusual ruff, in fact the taller birds had difficulty keeping upright. The 'blue' BG is, of course, the blue sky reflecting in the surface water on the sand.

Like the raised leg and the feather action. Would take a sliver off the right side to move the bird a tad to the right. I am finding the blue BG a bit overwhelming in this image and is distracting a bit from your nice bird and pose.

    Melvin -

Wonderful capture. Really like the raised foot, and above all, the ruffed feathers along the nape. The detail is great as well.

I will agree with Marina about the blue being a bit distracting. I would tone it down and desaturate it a bit.

Excellent image and do like the lifted plumage. Raised foot adds nicely, good work.

I like the pose and the blue bg, good exposure. Well done for a windy day.

Very nice bird, I do like the sharpness and raised foot. I also believe the blue should be tone done a bit in brightness and saturation. Just my suggestion.

Nice pose and clean comp. Yes, the wind-blown feathers add interest. I'm OK with the water, I'd just like to see either more saturation o the subject, or make it selectively "warmer". I'd also clean up the pale circle area of the eye between the two catchlights. Very nice overall.
