    Default Catch of the day

A few weeks ago I was lucky to get this grabshot of one of my local sea eagles (this is the male) just after he caught a fish in a nearby pond. My friend was driving down the road to her letterbox and she started to madly toot her horn and pointed. I just spun around with my doggies as the sea eagle flew past me, then down to the lake below me, then as I rushed back to the hole in a barbed wire fence I was able to fire off about three frames really quickly. This was the first and best of the lot.

30D/700mm/ISO800/f/6.3/1-4000th/+1.33EC applied during capture, hand held.

Quick thinking. I like the position of the bird in the frame, his catch, and the open beak. Nicely done.

These types of circumstances are often the best and most satisfying! Great pose, and I love the brownish BG. Neat open bill. Nice prey item bonus (which I think you could try to tone down though, especially the area near the fish's tail). I could see the comp with the bird lower in the frame.

Great capture, Akos. I like that wings up position, and the warm tones of the background set the bird off beautifully. I would try to tone down the highlights on the fish, as Daniel points out, and I could see a bit more of a crop. Excellent reaction time, you made the most of this unexpected opportunity. (that's why I drive around with my 500mm right next to me--and sometimes on my lap!)

Hi Mate, good flying pose with the extented wing position, and love how we can see the eagle holding onto his catch. The eagle is separated from the BG nicely, and Im fine with the placement in the frame.
