    Default Looking Back

On the way home on this day i decided to take a quick run over the Dunedin causeway here in Florida hoping to see something great. Although the light was a bit harsh there were plenty of clouds around so i thought i might get lucky with some diffused moments. I spotted what i thought to be a long billed curlew and decided to park the truck and grab my camera for a few shots. When i got there he had just caught a big crab and was trying to escape the crazy willet that was right on his tail. I got a few frames before I realized the bill on this guy was alot shorter than I recalled and had alot more pink in it. I quick pulled out my phone and checked out the bird ap and just asI thought read that it was a whimbrel...my first one. Yippee

I love the head tilt, even the one blade of grass mirrors the shape of that cool bill. Nicely done.

    Hi,

Beautifully sharp bird well separated from the background, and I love the head turn and facial expression. I find the bird a bit centred, and would prefer a crop with the bird a bit more to the right. Well done for a great photo of a new bird for you.

Very nicely exposed and the feather detail is beautiful. The look back is great and the comp is perfect in my opinion. Well done!

Very nice image of this species. I love the look back pose, sharpness and detail. If it were mine I would move the bird a little bit to the right and I would tone down the bright spots of the water in front of the bird.

Such a sweet look back at you, and wonderful sharpness all the way to tip of tail feathers. Congrats on your first whimbrel and on getting such a nice portrait of it!

Wonderful look-back pose and good detail. I could also imagine the bird a tad to the right in the frame, but would be very pleased with this as posted. Congrats on the first!

Hi Cheryl, congrats on your first of this species, and I too, love the inquisitive head pose. Good DOF, sharp, and I would maybe move him back to the right a bit more.

    Cheryl:

A very bright scene, but you used it to your advantage with great DOF, sharp, endearing head position.

I would be inclined to crop from the right as others have mentioned. Not a lot, as you don't want the crop going too square.

Don't you just love it when a hunch/whim pans out!

    Cheers

What a great and unique pose. Like all the debris on the beach. Would take a little off of the right.
