On a windy and overcast day, I was able to get a couple of shots of this BCNH hovering before landing on a post. Cropped from the right and a bit from the top. Taken at La Chua Trail in Gainesville, FL. I have been using Auto ISO to keep a minimum shutter speed of 1/2500" (max ISO of 6400).

    Shooting info:
    Nikon d800 | 500 mm f/4 VR + 1.4x
    700 mm | 1/2000" | f/7.1 | ISO 6400
    Aperture Priority | +2/3 EV

Comments, critiques, suggestions are all welcomed and appreciated.

    Hi,

Well done for capturing that pre-landing moment. Unfortunately I find my eye drawn to the dark green part of the bg above the bird's head initially. Also, is the bird a bit over-exposeed? Pretty good detail and lack of noise for ISO6400.

Great capture. The BG above the head dosnt hurt too much for me. Detail is good and exposed well but the bird needs some saturation and contrast boost to really make it pop IMO. ISO 6400, way cool.
P.S. I have been using auto ISO for BIF shots for a long time. If the shot is a little grainy I can maybe deal with it but if it has motion blur Its done. Good Job

You caught some interesting action here Miguel on the bird's landing approach. lovely sharp image but agree a little boost in contrast would make it pop.

Super landing pose, Miguel, love that feet first position. Another yes to a boost in contrast. Good comp and sharpness.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll add a bit of contrast and see what I get.

Hi Miguel, excellent incoming pose with the swept back wings, and sharp as presented. I agree with a touch more contrast, and first prize would have been the foliage BG extending all the way up in the frame.
