Taken down in South Carolina on the coast earlier in the month. This is a follow up image to the one I posted a week or so ago. This shows the sanderling at the height of its post-bath leap. As I wrote in the previous post, I have had a goal for some time to get a Sanderling jumping up and wing flapping after its bath, and this is one of those frames. I cropped this to a vertical as I felt that better emphasized the jump.
Thanks for looking, and in advance for any comments and critiques.

Beauty ful shot, Melissa. The exposure is spot on, HA is perfect nice pose and the water droplets add interest.
It is nice to see the water surface, where it jumped up from. Besides all of these he/she is a real cutie.

About perfect for me, It was probably tempting to crop tighter, but the whole view works very well.

    Melissa:

Well captured, neat pose, soft layered BG.

This might be really fun as a tryptic to show the bath the jump and the landing again.

Some of the whites looks a bit smooth. Not overexposed at this point, just not a lot of detail. Did you have to do any recovery on them?

The vertical comp really works to tell the story here!

    Cheers

Excellent image Melissa. I like the sharpness, water drops, BG and water at the bottom grounds the image nicely.

Very well done Melissa - you have certainly achieved your goal here. The suspended droplets emphasize the leap from the water and the sanderling is caught in the best possible pose. Well done..!!

Killer image! Love the clearance this sanderling got from the water...!
Light quality is excellent, and your judicious use of space rocks. Maybe just a tiny bit of counter clock wise rotation....

Very nice capture and I agree with your choice of a vertical crop. Works great for this image. I would consider a bit of selective sharpening on the head.

I was shooting Forster's Terns bathing the other day and trying to catch the Jump. I was thinking of you since I saw the previous shot you posted. This one is great too. I really like the water drops and the space you left for him to have jumped from. The dof made the water so nice and soft yet sharp right where it needs to be.

Thanks for all the feedback, much appreciated. Randy, yes, I did do a touch of recovery. Will try to eke more details out of whites. I really like your tryptic idea, thanks!
