    Default FIRST DIP

Photographed this one day old Sandhill Crane Colt taking its first dip in the pond next to its nest. I was quite surprised to see that the chicks could swim like fish from shortly after they were born. What a treat it was to watch and photograph them exploring and learning the ropes.

Beautiful. BG, exposure, details and comp are perfect. The reflection adds allot to the scene. Love the tiny drops of water stuck to its flanks. Great work.

Beautiful composition chosen, Marina. So many fine elements, not the least of which is that cute chick. Lovely.

This was taken at a small pond near Brooksville. A friend of mine just happened to be driving by and saw the cranes building a nest. There are many crane nests in Florida each year.

    Marina:

Too cute for sure. I love the hairdo, nice reflection, rich colors.

I might consider cleaning up the small shoot in front of the bird. The others don't bother me.

Interesting about them swimming, I would not have guessed that, since to the best of my knowledge, the adults don't ever swim. Have you seen the adults swimming?

    Cheers

While I have never seen an adult swim, Randy, I have a strong suspicion they can swim just based upon watching the little ones manage so well.

Wow, truly amazing picture, Marina. The reflection makes this shot special, beside the cuteness factor of the little one.

A most appealing image Marina. Beautiful warm colours and the little movement in the water adds to the composition. Including the relection really makes the image pop..!!

Broke my sweetness scale. I love the colors in the water, the fluffyness of the chick and the overall feel of this not to mention the reflection.

Not only a wonderful capture but a wonderful moment to experience! How rewarding to keep it. Lovely setting, the colorful water, full reflection, and such a precious little one. As a photographer you should be very proud as it's images like this one that opens peoples hearts & minds to conservation. Beautiful work.
