Default A female hooded m. among the greens

Greetings folks! The hooded mergansers have returned, the females anyhow (a juvenile?) and here's a look at one of the fine birds. Taken with the Canon 7D and 70-300L at 300mm. iso800, 1/200, 5.6. This is approximately 80% of the original capture. As always I shall welcome your thoughts, ideas, and opinions...

Ah! I worked on a few things, lightened the head a little bit, burned in and removed some brighter spots in the water? What say you to this alternate version, dear folks?

The details are nice, The colors are all wrong though, Mergansers are not blue.
I think she was in shadow and you need to adjust the WB.

I've done quite a bit of white balance tweaking but the top feathers stay blue...what would be the best way to restore this bird to its "natural" colors? Any help would be appreciated! I haven't run into a problem like this before, not on this level anyhow...

I've been re-examining my shots from this day and it's quite true: all the pictures of the shaded merganser have that blue in the feathers. Adjusting the white balance doesn't get rid of the blue...has anyone else encountered grey-brown birds going blue in the shade? Love the way it looks, but realize it's not true-to-life...

Hey Jack, cast noted, and I attempted to tame it in PS using your original post (pane #1). Here is what I did. Select the bird via your favorite method as you do not want to affect the water, then go to "Selective Color". From there choose the Blue Channel and adjust: Cyan -56, Magenta -43, Yellow + 100. Then got to the MaMagenta channel and adjust: Cyan -71, Magenta -86, Yellow +100. Finally go to Neutral and adjust: Cyan -4, Yellow +15. This is what it gave me...

    Hi Jack,
I gave it a try as well. I changed the temperature to +26 and the tint to -26 in Lightroom. Then I took it into photoshop cs5 and multiplied it, set to a low opacity to tone down the bright yellow water. The water is still a bit bright.
