    Default CARE FOR A SMOKE?

Was photographing this Long-billed Curlew foraging for crabs at Fort Desoto Park when, low and behold, he pulled up a discarded cigar. He quickly realized it wasn't food. It's quite sad that people aren't conscious of the damage they can do by not properly discarding their trash. On a lighter note, I hope at least it was a Cohiba!!

    Canon 50D, Canon 400 DO
    F7.1, 1/800sec, ISO 400, manual mode
    Gitzo tripod, Mongoose head

C & C always welcomed and much appreciated.

It is indeed sad when people are so inconsiderate of the habitats of the other inhabitants of our planet. On the flip side, it gave you an opportunity to photograph something unique! Wonderful capture, great lighting. Beautiful bird, too!

That's one of those cheapo cigarillos anyhow, a Century Sam or a Captain Black, nothing too good, you can tell from the low-rent white plastic holder. The tip was probably flavored! The picture is terrific and appeals to me very much. It's funny and warm all at once. All the "techs" are beyond reproach as well...

Marina , the cigar and great humour aside , this is a beautiful capture. An amazing bill and great light . I can see this image being used in an anti - pollution ad , together with an appropriate caption !! any suggestions out there ... ?

Lovely exposure and quite different to get him with cig butt in beak. I thought our curlews had long beaks but this is huge.

My question is, did you over him a light?

Nice shot, very unique indeed. Like the low angle here, sharp and exposure looks good.

Wading around in water is bound to get you a " soggy butt " after a while lol

Looks great Marina, generally sharp, head a tad soft....smoking will do that to you lovely light and of course nicely timed....agree with Arno about an anti pollution image

This is a really unique image.
I like the subject matter and I can see this as a contest entry for hand of man.
Would also work well for a WWF or antipollution ad.
The light and POV are excellent.
    Well done,
    Gail

Well this does a great job detailing the effect of mankind on this earth. 'Tis a shame...... but you've done a splendid job portraying it.

Well executed image. Sharp where needed imo. Sadly, it illustrates the slackness of many humans in the world. I think someone mentioned this image could be used to promote a cleaner environment and some more responsible attitudes!

Neat shot Marina. I sure am glad he didn't swallow that. I like how you caught the "catch" just above the water.
