I haven't posted an image on here for a while. Things have been fairly hectic with university applications recently, and in the past week I've been at the Natural History Museum every day since Tuesday! Will be there again thisevening, and then at Wildphotos on Friday and Saturday. I had an image commended in this year's Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition, which I am really pleased about. Being at the various events over the last week has really made me determined to try and get there again one year, as to be able to speak with some of the top photographers in the world is incredible. Well done to Ofer Levy and Jasper Doest for their images, as well as all the other photographers!
Anyway, this image was taken at the beginning of July at the landing place from which the boat goes to Skomer. There were a couple of young swallows perched on the gutter of a building, and I wanted to get one with the adult in the same frame. What do you think?
Hey Oscar, you sound like a busy man! I see what you were going for here, and I can appreciate the behaviour of the incoming parent towards the young one ready to eat. The juvie looks quite good, nice wide gape on the mouth and both eyes look great. The adult I feel is more a distraction than anything here and too OOF (IMO). I also wish it was not overlapping the little guy. These guys are fun to photograph at this stage in life, lots of good stuff to be had, and fun to experiment as you did here.
If the adults are consistent in their route you can then align yourself more parallel to that (if possible), and get some great food exchange frames...
