Hi everyone. This is an American Pipit from this weekend. I have some of him on a perch but I like the color of the foliage he was walking through. I did not clone out anything and just performed some standard PS adjustments. Any tips on how to improve the image are always welcome and encouraged! D800 600mm VR + 1.4TC Fill Flash Fired

    Hi Jon,
    Welcome to BPN!
    An excellent first post.
Great strutting pose ( these guys remind me of cartoon soldiers).
Good low POV. I would take a bit off the RHS to get rid of that long blade of grass that is a bit distracting. I would also burn the 2 bright spots just above the tail.
Light was a bit harsh but exposure is spot on. I might reduce the overall brightness a little bit.

PS. Don't forget your exif data ie shutter speed, ISO and aperture with your next shot!

I enjoy the subject pose here. You captured the bird mid-bob, and I think the bird's "personality" shows nicely.
Sharp details. Great view of the feet. The low shooting angle has helped to isolate the subject well, though I
wonder (at the cost of the feet showing well), if a lower shooting angle might not have yielded a dreamier fg
to bg transition...I agree that toning down those two bg grass highlights above the tail is a worthwhile consideration.

A belated welcome to BPN Jon!! Love the typical pipt striding pose here. Very sharp and detailed as posted, and I like the colours in the BG. A few streaks and highlights could be toned down in that BG, but you did well getting down way low to minimize those. Not sure of your techs, but could you have opened up the aperture to smooth those out in-camera?

I photographed a flock of about 30 pipits a couple weeks ago, all on the ground, I returned with some perches the next day and they were gone! Hope you got some good ones...

Shawn....I had the legs spread as wide as they could go so I couldn't really go any lower. At least it was relatively dry-ish there :) I was hoping he would have perched on the setup but he chose to only on a stump which was too big for him to look proper in the frame. Another reason to go back and get it a little better.

Thanks Daniel. I was at f8 ISO400@1/1250 and with him being totally parallel I could have gotten by with f7.1 I think. I wanted to be sure both legs were sharp and I may have overdone it. I am not a big PS blur guy but I could try that to smooth it out a bit. It will give me something to practice. These 2-4 have been there for a few weeks but I have some sparrows at my neighbor's I am going to try for this weekend. Sorry to hear yours were not as cooperative :(Thanks for all your input!
