One of my favorite backyard birds. Cropped, lowered contrast to mitigate bright morning light, and cloned out bit of feeder pole.

I wish I had a backyard bird like yours, Bill. Nice background and excellent perch and pose. IQ is great.

Nice perch, background, and SH. If it were mine, I would tone down the highlights on the perch only, and wish the bird was looking more towards you.

Very cool perch. Lighting is even but bright, especially on the perch; I might bring things down a bit. BG is perfect. I do agree with Ryan that I'd like a slight head turn towards the viewer.

Bill, excellent perch. Perfectly parallel. Terrific DOF coverage here. everything sharp and BG is smooth...very nice work. Loved the balance in the composition. Agree that brightness can be reduced a tad. Terrific IQ.

My eyes keep going to the lichen covered perch, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, it works in well, exposure looks good, just tad bright behind the eye....sweet little chickadee

    Terrific shot.
Wonderful background, I really like the perch, nice details, and great comp.
Agree on it being a tad bright.
    Well done.

Sweet image. The perch has a lot of character, and will only look better here with a slightly toned down presentation. Nice sharpness, especially on the bird. I can't quite figure out the shadow on the tail, unless there was another branch a bit up and out of the frame that is casting it...?

Good call in reducing the contrast as I usually find it strong among perches covered with lichen when the sun is higher, you did well here but I agree more toning down of the brightness could be good. Great little subject, nice to get it on something other than a tree trunk. I'd have preferred a better HA too, but must admit that this shows this species' character quite well.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Believe it or not, I had toned down the brightness of the perch quite a bit before posting the OP, but clearly didn't go far enough. Here's a repost with the overall image brightness reduced by 6 points, and the highlights on the perch taken down another 8 with the s/h tool. Clearly an improvement. But yes, I too wished for just one degree of head turn.

I wondered when someone would comment on the shadow, and Shawn gets the prize. That is the shadow of the feeder bracket that I cloned out. I was aware of the shadow but cloning it out is beyond my abilities.
