    Posted a non singing one of this guy a while ago. He was the king of the marsh and he would sit on this snag and chase off all competitors then strut his stuff by singing. If you havent heard one, they make a a very unique raspy call.

    Absolutely superb singing pose of YHBB captured.Very nicely exposed.

    I like this lots. Great singing pose, BG, exposure. Not super crazy about the extra knob at the bottom of the perch, and I'd tone down the lower mandible. These guys are out of range for Ottawa, but a couple of years back one showed up near here and had the local birders busy for a couple of weeks :-)

    Hi David - these are cool birds. During the summer, they are all over the marshes here in Central Oregon. In some places as you drive along the service roads, there might be 20-30 of them in a tenth of a mile pecking up gravel. And they perch on the new zealand fencing along the road. Beautiful birds. But they are so black that getting the feather detail to show w/out blowing out the yellows ain't easy, so nice exposure. I can hear their raspy call right now.
