Canon 1 D Mk II, 100-400@200mm, 1/320@ F5, ISO 400. This was from last week at the Alligator Farm. Despite noisy foreground, noisy background, poor head position, thought the image looked OK overall. Would like to get other opinions.

Hi Richard. I like this image of the heron in its habitat. This bird is very blue. I like it. The BG is a problem and I don't know what to suggest for it. Maybe you could mask the bird and some of the foliage near the bird, then do a Gaussian Blur on the rest. This might bring the bird away from the BG a bit. I do think that if you lightened the eye, the bird would look more lively. I have attempted to do so as you can see in the image I've posted although, it doesn't appear to have helped much. Dan Brown
I like the light, but the bird looks too blue to me. I don't ind the background because that is where he lives. I'd be tempted to take some off the left for a better compo.
I like the composition here showing the bird in its habitat and find the greens and blues rather pleasing. Although the background is rather busy, as noted, I don't mind it as much as the head angle. By the way, I believe the white plume identifies it as a tri-colored heron rather than a little blue.
took a couple of attempts with the new software viveza and toned down some of the bright areas
