Default Hello from Dennis Zaebst in Cincinnati

Hello to everyone here at BPN. I have been here for a while, and as some of you know, I have been posting for a week or two now in the Avian forum. I did join a couple of years ago, and then let my membership lapse. I rejoined just recently, and apparently I wasn't forgotten, as my old settings and avatar were still intact.

A little about myself: I have a BS degree in Wildlife Biology. I started in photography way back in the 1960s with a Minolta SRT-101, which I used for years and years. I also did wedding photography in graduate school to support myself. For that venerable task I used a Mamiya C-330 MF camera with interchangeable lenses and finders. Other than that, until the late 1990s, I didn't do much photography, but rekindled my interest at that point after I bought a Minolta 9, and 300 mm and 600 mm Minolta lenses, plus a 100 mm macro and other accessories. I loved that camera and system.

In 2003, after Minolta informed me that they were never going to market a digital SLR (hah), I switched to the Canon system, and bought a 10D shortly after they were introduced. I have since gone through several Canon bodies, and currently have two 7Ds and a 50D for backup. I would dearly love to invest in a 1D Mark IV, if I could find one in good shape at a good price. If anyone here is selling their 1D Mark IV, or knows of a good place to look, I would appreciate a heads up.

Well that's enough for now about me. I am looking forward to getting to know the people on this site. As I can see from perusing the forums, there is a high level of civility here, which is not necessarily the case at some other photo sites I have visited. I have already learned a lot from the few posts I have made...so thanks!

    Best regards,
    Dennis Zaebst

Welcome back to BPN!! Minolta had a big part in my photography bug too as I used to finish up my dad's rolls of film on his Minolta x-700. Lots of fun, and quite funny looking back on those photos!

Thank you Daniel and Gail. After looking at your photos (and others as well) here in the forums, I have learned a lot very quickly, one of which is to work on the low angle POV. Another is that I am a really tight cropper... I need to work on both of those! (Not to mention everything else ).

    Best regards,

    Dennis

Welcome back to BPN, Dennis. You have an interesting BG and am confident you'll be pleased with BPN and all that it has to offer. You're making a smart decision by purchasing the 1D4. You can check out our "Buy, Sell or Trade Photography Gear" forum where there are often cameras for sale. You may also wish to try E-bay or Canon Digital Forums for equipment if you can't find what you are looking for here.

    See you around the forums.

Thank you Marina. I am checking a variety of sites daily including B&H, Adorama, KEH, this site's "Buy..." forum, even Googling "1D mark iv body for sale". I guess there's a reason why they're hard to find. My biggest concern is buying one that is too used up, with too many shutter actuations, and/or dysfunctions of some kind. I even found one used on Amazon.com which was advertised "nearly new" for $5300! I knew they were expensive, but at that price (for a used mark iv) the seller is just taking advantage of the demand and gouging. I'll keep trying.

    Best regards,
    Dennis

I just recently bought my used for $3,000 with 97,000 accuations. My 2 friends bought one in the last 2 months as well for $3700 and $3300 with 8,000 and 30,000 actuatoins respectively. I have had my 1D3 for almost 3 years and it's a workhorse. I would check out this site, naturescapes site. canon digital forums and ebay. Both of my friends bought theirs through ebay and have been extremely pleased.

Send me a PM if you have any specific questions.
