This image was made during a September sunrise a few years back on the North Shore of Lake Superior.
Initially, when I processed the image, I was timid with the saturation and contrast. Some online Minnesota
photogs helped me realize a more artistic presentation by jacking the drama up a bit in pp. Near thermo-nuclear,
but hopefully have not crossed the line :)
SonyA300, Tokina80/400, iso100, f13, 1/3200, cropped, pushed the saturation and contrast, USM.
Comments and critiques welcome.
Regards,
Shawn Zierman.
This is quite a powerful image, Shawn. I am a lover of silhouettes and you are right, this one is quite dramatic. Love the different hues of orange and the darker portion of the sky.
Another fan of silhouettes here, and this one works quite well. I feel the comp would be strenghtened if you'd crop to just above the dark area in LLC. Very striking!
Thanks for the feedback!
Dan, if you get a chance, can you just whip out the example of what you are suggesting regarding the crop?
I'm struggling to see the benefit of the crop, but I love your eye for composition, so if you get a chance that would be great...
Or if someone else can see what Dan is suggesting, just rework the crop and put it up...Thanks!
Hey Shawn. I realize composition is highly subjective, but this is what I had in mind. I like how the perch is solidly anchored to the bottom edge, which is also quite "clean"
Another fan of silhouettes. Very nice colors and scene. Dans comp is the icing on a beautiful shot. Removes the lower left part that didnt do anything for the pic. Good Work
Hi Shawn,
I really like Dan's repost. There was too much black at the bottom and it made the image bottom heavy. Do you have any more canvas up top? If you do, I would include it and keep Daniels crop.
I really like the pose and the colors as well,
Gail
