Another view of the same juvie Red Knot I posted a couple days ago. Taken on Kiawah Island, South Carolina a week ago. Thought people might like to see this for the overall side view of the plumage; you can really see the "juvie feathers neatly edged with black sub-terminal bands," as Artie puts it, which are key to identifying this species and its age. I have learned so much just from photographing this lone knot. I love it when that happens.
Some may not like the muck on the bill but I wanted to leave it as it speaks of what the bird was busy doing.
Thanks for looking and in advance for any comments and critiques.

The juveniles of this species are lovely.your image shows off why. I like the pose, it looks like he's tip-toeing past you. Of course leave the muck on his bill...for the very reason you stated.

    Melissa:

Very nice feather anatomy lesson! Displays the banding well. Good angle, nice light, smooth BG, sharp and well exposed. I agree about the muck, helps tell the story! Just the right amount of OOF foreground for my tastes.

    Cheers

Sweet! Muck and all. Dan took the words out of my mouth - the layered background is gorgeous. HA, low POV, detail and exposure are all great.

Very nicely composed image. I like the multicolored background, the low angle shooting point, great eye contact and walking pose. Nice one, Melissa.

    Sweet image!
The pose is excellent. Your shooting angle is spot on. The entire bird shows nicely, and I like the slimmed down
look that the pose is providing. Composition and subject placement work well.

Love the "muck" and that graduated background.

I see a halo around the legs. I'm guessing a sloppy selection for sharpening ??

Thanks a lot everyone, for the comments. Chris, you're right, a bit of a rush job on the legs, which I did not for sharpening purposes, but for noise removal on background only.
