I shot this at a wildlife refuge. I was quite far from the geese...at least 100 feet. Postprocessing in Photoshop included sharpening, increasing contrast, slight increase in saturation, and cropping.
Canon Xsi, 300 mm f/4 lens with 1/4 extender, at 420 mm, ISO 400, f 5.6, 1/1000s.
Hi Wendy-Very colorful shot, nice contrast between the green and reflected blues. Exposure looks good too. Lighting is excellent, your position used it to advantage. Couple of suggestions re: Postwork-Rotate slightly to the right to straighten the horizon (implied) and experiment with aspect ratios- for a shot like this I'd look at 16x9 or so to limit foreground/background and emphasize the area the birds are in.
Nice action shot and the fall colors are grand. The image contains three layers and it a bit out of balance. The foreground layer is alright, the subject is alight but the background (top section of foliage) is begging for attention too,..this can be a problem. Moreover causes the eye to move up, down and roam a bit. You are not far off and one of the best exercise for this is the paper drill. Take a piece of paper move it around on the screen and find the sweet spot for the image (then crop accordingly). If you cannot then use this knowledge next shoot to conrol the frame; a bit off the top and bottom is a good place to start and create harmony in the image.
The exposure techs are an opportunity too,.faster shutter would make the moving subjects sharper and there are hot pixels which could be avoided (check histogram for clipping on the right). Nice job capturing a perfect moment the Canada Geese are amazing and their landings are great moments in nature - good eye here. keep posting - thanks.
