Nice and sharp, good looking back pose, nice light and clean BG. Detail and IQ is great. Only thing I wish for is a bit more DOF to get the top of the tail in focus.

Nice one, Jim. Great look-back pose and nice detail. These are handsome little sparrows. Ours are just starting to come back here for the winter - heard one calling yesterday. I'm not sure what caused the black line around the tail. Did you use fill flash?

Thanks Bill. This was natural light with no flash. I cloned out a shadow that was around the tail and missed that area.

Very nice looking shot. Very sharp and full of detail. Exposed perfectly and the BG is very complementary. All around great work.

Great looking Sparrow. I love the head angle and great detail. The eye contact is super too. With that shutter speed if it held the pose it would have been interesting to see what f11 would have looked like for DOF.

Hi Jim, great close up of the sparrow, and lots to look at with regards to detail and colours. Just enough space at the bottom, and you have a lovely complimentary BG to round the image off.

Excellent light quality and a pleasing backside view of this tan striped morph.
Looks like the head just squeaked in regarding dof, though when I pixel peep, the scapulars do look slightly sharp
than the facial details...The tail is looking a little strange, like a paper cut out...I'd like to see a version with the
shadow detail by the tail not cloned out, just to compare...Regardless, very nice image.

Exquisite photo. Everything is great...exposure, lighting, composition. Amazing work...love that clean, smooth background.

I guess the only thing I wish was different was a slightly deeper DOF, to get its whole tail and its entire perch in full focus.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions.

Shawn here is a repost with the shadow areas left in. I dodge the shadows a little to make them less harsh. The sun was getting high it was around 1130am when this image was taken. I also warmed it up a bit.
