This image was made yesterday morning in Duluth, Minnesota. Food was used as an attractant. MP3 bird songs are also
used at this location as another mean of attraction and interest. This species is fairly terrestial, and getting them off the
ground at a feeder scenario is difficult. So, even though I wish the perch was not as dominant size wise, I think there are
enough positives going on in the image to overcome that shortfall. A stiff breeze helped provide the "beard" in this case.
Canon7d, Sigma50/500os, iso800, f9, 1/500, cropped, resized, cloned out a small branch coming into the frame under
the bird using the "protect and defend" cloning technique I learned about through this website (thanks!), selective NR
applied to the background, USM. (Forgot to mention that a pop up blind was used as part of the image making process here).
Comments and critiques welcome.
Regards,
Shawn Zierman.
Great shot Shawn. Even though the perch is a bit big it dose have some lichens that make it more interesting. The bird is very nicely lit, sharp and the scene is well exposed. Looks great against the perfect BG. Good Work!
Hi Shawn, I like your comp, and the angled pose of the sparrow on the perch. Excellent detail and sharpness, and I do like the colours on him. The breeze certainly has shown up the 'beard', and since I have larger perches at some of my locations, so Im fine with the perch as presented. Great BG too.
I agree with you about the perch size, but all else looks great. Perfect HA, and yes, the wind-ruffled chin feathers do provide some interest on this fella.
