Shore birds in Southwestern Ontario ? and good spots
Hey guys I would like to get some nice shore bird photos but I don't no where to find any other then a sewage lagoon I don't no but I don't feet like laying down in that stuff. Does anyone no of any where near London Ontario where shorebirds can be found.
Hi Corey, I am from eastern Ontario. There are lots of places for shorebirds but it really depends on, how far your willing to drive. Also in mid October the shorebird migration is pretty well over.
For the most part some of the best shorebird habitat is unfortunately sewage lagoons but careful searching of shorelines in the Hamilton area, or Lake Saint Clair can be productive.
Southwest of you are Tilbury, Blenheim both good spots but again sewage lagoons. Hillman Marsh and area near Leamington is fairly good for shorebirds in both spring and fall.
Shoreline habitat in Rondeau, Long Sault and Pelee worth a look.
If you check Ebird Canada website and search specific shorebirds you may find other places, most shorebirds gone now so you have all winter to find new places and get ready for spring.
