    This guy is very tame.
Unfortunately he picked up a piece of fishing line with a little weight on the line.
Somebody went in with a boat, managed to capture him and removed the fishing line.
By then it did some major damage to the leg. It looks pretty bad.
Le't's hope he will be OK.
    Thanks for looking.

    Karl:

Tremendous eye, nice lores, like the feather, pleasant BG. Whites on cheek look a little hot on my work monitor. Perhaps tone them down a bit.

    Hope he does OK!

    Cheers

    Thanks, Randy.
I used some linear burn on the face and the breast. It still had a small area that was blown (255)
I selected a small part of the face and moved (copied) it over in layers to cover the blown spot.
    It looks OK. now.

Repost looks great for white redo.
I like the background and pose. Nicely framed.
Would you consider a little (masked) yellow saturation in the bill? Yellow seems a little drab compared to those I am familar here, but maybe its just a difference in the birds across the continent?

Fine re-post. I would consider a vert. crop if it were mine.

Nice colors around the eye and lores. Repost helps the whites. Comp works for me. Best wishes for the bird.

Re-post looks great. I'd take a tiny bit off the dead space on the top, otherwise I like the crop. Nice details, BG, Sharpness. I hope he will be fine.

Beautiful red eye, exposure, detail and BG. I also like the comp and the whites. They where ok on the OP but are better now. Nice Work!

I like the OP and I have to say that I would not have noticed the hot whites.
I like your composition as is and really like the little feather in the beak.
    Nice BG!
Why such a high ISO? You could have gotten away with ISO 800 and SS 1/400 for a still bird. IQ is still fine though.
I hope he survives his man made injury,
    Gail

Whites look better on the repost, though they did not look to shabby on the OP.
I like the feather at the end of the bill, it adds some nice interest to this fine
    portrait. Great background too.

    Terrific shot Karl.
Very nice background, I really like the feather on it's beak, great comp, and nice details.
    Well done.

Oh I'd love the chance at head and shoulder portraits of this species! The eye rocks, and although I see Don's point about the bill I do find it interesting and nicely weathered. Good comp and I like the bit of red in ULC. Sharpness is good good but some parts of the plumage look a bit smooth as if NR was applied to it?

Hi Karl, lovely close up, and you have exposed this fellow nicely, and your repost looks better in the areas concerned about the hot whites. Good detail on the head and bill, and yes, that eye is awesome. The feather on the tip of the bill adds interest, and agree the wings look smoother than would they should, but it could be lack of DOF.

Very good looking bird, I like the bold red eye and the repost looks even better Karl, I feel sorry for the bird since you mention that is has been injured. Hope it will get better soon.

Great portrait. Lots of nice rich colors here. Like the others, I think the re-post improves the blown spot very nicely.
