    I was fortunate to capture the entire courtship and mating ritual of these Avocets this week at Sunset. Much like the Black Necked Stilts I captured doing the same thing last week, it was very cool to witness. Also as with the Stilts, they cuddled and crossed bills afterwards.

    Canon 40D with 500MM and 1.4 TC
    1/1000th at F/7.1
    ISO 250

    Technically perfect and artistically lovely. Perfect framing and crop. Perfect light angle and a perfect angle to the birds. Way to go.

    lovely moment; well exposed frame.
    i guess further lower angle would have created a better background blurr but again i don't know under what conditions u were shooting in.
    overall, an excellent image...

    Before I read Artie's comments I was thinking wow this is awesome. Now I know I was right. Beautiful, the light and exposure are just excellent.

    Hi Tim. this is my vote for image of the week. What a treat to witness this and in such wonderful light. I love the detail in the whites and the catch light in the eyes. Their bills are so interesting. We don't see many of these in south Florida.
