While retutning home and driving along a country road I flushed a flock of about 40-50 of these guys that were foraging along the road and they landed right back into the field about 20 yards away. Of course I had to stop to try my hand at them. Got out of the car lied down flat beside it (using it as cover), and played the audio...man, I was surrounded by at least a dozen or so! This particular fella started to retreat upon realizing of my presence.

Canon 7D + 100-400L @365mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/500s., f/6.3, ISO 400, natural light, handheld, a couple of lighter areas in the FG toned down via burn tool. Small crop left and below to help the composition.

Nicely done, Daniel. What amazes me about the 7D (which is my primary camera too) is the resolution and lack of noise, if shot and post-processed properly. I like the smooth background, the pose, low angle lending intimacy with the bird, and the catch light in the eye. Terrific composition and bokeh too.

    Best regards,

Killer image of this species. Love the raised foot and hind claw detail. The head angle works
perfectly to off set the body being slightly angled away. This has and continues to be a tough
species for me to get good results of during migration. Will have to try the audio...nice to know
    of it's effectiveness...thanks :)

They walk like this, don't they. Nice pose captured at low shooting angle, Daniel. At tah low angle even the gravel looks great.

Great job capturing this Pipit. Cool to watch them feed as they constantly pump there tails. Like the raised foot, HA and the low angle of the shot. BG blends with the FG nicely. Nice work!
