My adrenalin surges whenever a warbler lands close to me -- it doesn't happen often. This female American Redstart chose a somewhat compromised perch at Jamaica Bay back in August, but she only stayed for an instant. After looking at the image for awhile, I decided (rationalized??) that the broken twigs added interest. I suspect most of you will not see it that way .

I am a real warbler fan too Bill. They are a huge challenge as they are so small and hard to get close to and move way too fast. But you have a great shot of the species here. Nice exposure and detail. I wouldn't normally find the broken twig a big problem but for me it seems to be too close to the main focal interest of the bird.

Nice shot, Bill! Too bad about the branch... I can't get Minnesota warblers to pick good clean perches either!

I like the apprehensive look, HA, sharpness and BG. I am not a fan of the broken twigs but you take what you can get. Well done Bill.

Bill, I know that you knew in advance...but I'm not a fan of the larger broken twig (I'm OK with the smaller one). Too bad as the subject looks perfect, the rest of the perch looks good, and the neutral BG is very appealing.

Thanks for the dose of reality, guys. Yes, Daniel, I knew it all along. Maybe this one is better -- just don't look too closely.

The repost looks much better. It takes care of the perch. Nice image of this female Redstart (or is it a male in fall colour?) against pleasing background, Bill.

Really good job of removing the broken twig and recreating the branch and even a toe on the bird! Good reflexes to capture a super busy warbler. Very nice light and details.
