A tricky bird to capture where we live. While they are not rare, they do not often come out in the open, preferring to forage in the understory of low bushes and vegetation.
Grace, nice work on a rarely seen bird. Your intro is important, because it makes me more apt to overlook the busy BG. Now I see the busy BG as an advantage, as it tells the truth about the species and its preferred habitat. Perhaps there's a reason why you didn't scoot him up a little higher in the frame.
Sweet capture of this little sprite...first year male by the looks of it. Perfect head angle..impossibly lucky to not get any branches
merging with the head in this scenario. The surroundings are great! Noise evident in the bg from the high iso...would not hurt
the image to selectively run some NR on the bg. Do miss the tail...
Well captured with very nice light on the face, making those yellow feathers glow. I think the bkgd is amazingly clean right around the bird and the branches have more of a framing effect. If you are not against it, I would consider cloning out those blurred branches that look a bit like extra legs as well as that attached leaf.
The bird is lit up very nicely. I like the habitat, about as clean as you can get with these.
Nice work as usual. I would maybe think about removing the colored leaf behind the bird.
It distracts a bit from the otherwise complementary BG.
Grace:
Very nice detail in the yellows, sharp, clean BG behind the head.
My first thought was to try a crop from the left to remove the up right bit of branch, but the other elements in the frame that need to be retained would force it to be rather a square crop, so I think it got it just right.
I could see toning down the leaf just a bit, to have a similar effect as the one in LLC.
Well he is a cutie! I don't often see young males with the pale black mask like this. I do miss the tail too, but otherwise a nice pose. The yellows look great! As ponited out some NR would beneficial. Overall quite appealing!
