    Default Razorbill

Here is a razorbill from last spring. We were visiting Scotland and took a tour out to the Isle of May. There was no option as to the time of day to visit the bird sanctuary. The time was determined by the tide.

    Taken around 1:00pm
    Handheld
Cropped to 50%. I should have zoomed in closer. NR on background.

The bird was on a cliff.

Hi Karen , I really do like this photograph ! The yellow across the bottom draws my eye a bit ,but,I don't think (If it were mine ) I would crop it out . Instead I think I would just change it's color to a darker (Non-eye catching ) Hue . Just my thoughts , Love the shot !

    Karen,

Greetings. I like the detail and the close up look at this interesting bird. I find myself turning my head to look at it though... perhaps a different framing?

This is pretty tight but to get the idea... Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,

Nicely done Karen- It's often hard to get detail in the eye of a Razorbill but you succeeded here. Your chosen f-stop gave you enough depth of field to get the eye and the bill tip in focus. Well done on that. I like "peekaboo" shots like this.

Thanks for the comments. The yellow on the rocks is a bit distracting. I was glad to get the sharpness on the bird because it was very windy on the island especially at the cliffs.

Hi Karen, you did a very nice job here with what you had to work with. I too like the bird peeking out from behind the rocks. I don't have any experience with this bird, but I can see that the plumage is extra-fine in texture and this makes detail difficult. You have a nice amount of detail in the image, well done. I like Michael's repost taking us in a bit closer, only wish the foreground elements were a bit more in focus. Good job on the exposure and color.

Hi karen...razorsharp image ...that eye is esp well done. I agree on changing the hue of the fg ( or simply toning it down) or cropping some out. Hope to see more of your work!
