    Default Great Grey Owl

This Great Grey Owl was photographed in the outskirts of the town Falun in Sweden. Due to lack of food they moved south and near towns for food. If you believe ornithologists they came from Russia and Finland. These owls was stationary for several weeks and totally unafraid of humans.
I took this image with the following equipment.
    Canon Eos 40D
    Canon EF 300/2.8 IS USM
    Soligor EF 1.4x extender
    420mm
    Iso 800
    F/4
    1/2500
    Manual mode

Beautifully backlit, Lovely wing position & eye contact make this image for me. I would have tried a bit more contrast & blacks.

The backlighting and precipitation make this one magical. Really sweet image of this lightly toned ggo.
Pretty amazing that you achieved the direct head on pose without feeding the owl too!

The back light through the wings and the falling snow make this a very special image.

Love the falling snow and backlighting. Great head-on pose too. I agree to try adding some contrast / blacks to see if that adds to the mood, and I'd try toning down the paler patch behind that wing. Great stuff!

    Thanks everyone for the feedback.
I am going to try some curve adjustment to boost the contrast.
It can be difficult to understand that you can photograph this amazing bird without bait. But they haven't seen many humans and we humans have never hunt them either. They were totally focused on hunting the mice in the field. If you stod still they could come as close as 5 meters.
