    Default Somber Night

I tried to post this yesterday but the image size was too small and I was running out the door! (what else is new!!) Anyway this is an inverted tree with multiple textures and Fractalius applied. I had originally wanted a bluer sky but the brown and grey tones really appealed to me so I just used hints of deep blue for added depth.

HI Denise....I like the effect you are getting here....very ghostly...the misty bg pulls everything together so well.

You have such an eye for trees . . . And process the images so well. This is beautiful.

Denise, I'm late to the party...but I have to say, you do have a way with trees, particularly those that are caught in the fall or early winter...the stark outline of the branches, the moody processing...the images never fail to evoke a response. This image could go so many different ways...wonderfully processed as it is, and there is a lot of potential for different color tones that would touch upon different emotional responses to the capture. This particular treatment is elemental...and, for me, has a sense of longing to it. Nicely done!

Looks wonderful! How did you do it? A strong, unusual and striking image. I'm intrigued with the idea of using textures in a monotone image.

    Thanks again everyone!
Anita, I inverted the original tree image and desaturated the image, then I added multiple textures-all of which had varied textures and tones, I selectively desaturated and added color where needed. Using the Fractalius only on the tree kept my background soft.

Stupid question: how does one invert a picture?

Anita, In Photoshop go to Image> Adjustments> Invert or alternately Crtl or Cmd I.
