    Default East Point Lighthouse

The East Point Lighthouse is a local landmark that has been photographed and painted by many, many artists in our area. I have returned to the lighthouse many times myself with new ideas for fresh images. I have been working with Fractalious and other plugins quite a bit lately, so I thought I would try working with a texture overlay this time around. With Halloween approaching I felt a dark and moody feel might be in order. This is a 6 image hdr that was processed with Nik HDR Efex Pro 2. A texure from Shadowhouse was added, and masking work was done on the actual lighthouse. That file was further worked in Nik Color Efex Pro 4. A few final selective brush adjustments were made in Lightroom. I'm not too sure about the flag on the left. Is it too distracting? All thoughts are always appreciated.

This is good in a lot of ways, Dave. It certainly fits the Halloween mood with the colors and tones. I like the orange in the sky, and having the lightest part of the sky near the lighthouse was a good touch. The perspective is good, too. I think it contributes a lot to the flow of the image. Speaking of that, I don't find the flag distracting, at all. I didn't consciously notice it until I read your question about it. Its angle and position are a plus. In fact, I think the entire composition is extremely well crafted.

This image has great mood and character. I really like the tension you created in the sky with the textures and the dark edges. I can see the head-less horseman galloping into a setting like this! I like the flag.

Dave, I really like this a lot. The composition lends to the spooky feeling and I love the texture and toning. And the vignette. And basically everything about it Including the flag.

Thank you everyone. It means a lot to have you take the time to respond with your thoughts. It was quite fun to see this image develop as I went along.

Dave, I love the color toning and the comp. It looks like "Brushstrokes" texture was added to the background. Nice work, it all came together nicely.

Thank you Denise, and you are absolutely correct. It was the "brushstrokes" texture from Shadowhouse.
