Baird's Sandpipers are not very colourful even in breeding plumage, and as this was the less bright of two birds I was photographing, it was probably a female. However this image was taken in early June when the birds were arriving on or near their breeding areas around Hudson's Bay and should have been in full breeding plumage but I was intrigued to see how worn a lot of the feathers appeared to be. Perhaps Artie would comment please.

Good species, nice look-back on the walking away pose. Harsh light though, and I would have preferred the subject higher in the frame and with more reflection (if it was clean enough to include). It does look rather worn...
