Varnum, Very nice shot of an awesome looking wood pecker. Great exposure, HA, feather detail, and BG. Even the shooting angle looks good, usually steeper on allot of wood peckers shots. Good job!
Cool Shot! Very difficult bird to get close to forget getting a decent shot. Congrats on that.
Crop is a little too tight for me. Looks a little overcooked. Corey has a point. The eye may have the sky shining in it but probably can be fixed to a more pleasing brightness...
What an amazing woodpecker! Fantastic side profile. I like the more or less diffused light quality.
The details on perch look oversharpened, less so on the bird. A consideration could be to sharpen the perch
and bird seperately, with a softer hand on the perch than the bird. Is the background more or less
pure or did you run a blur on it?
Very good looking bird. Nice exposure and great details. It is a little tight in the frame for me but since this is full frame you could do nothing about it. Well done. TFS.
Amazing bird! Quite a unique profile. I like the framing. The photo feels very saturated, and it might look more natural if you tone down the saturation a little bit. Really amazing bird though. Wish we had those in the US.
Great subject, background, and shooting angle. It feels tight to me, especially on the right side. Processing is ok, but right on the edge of having that crunchy oversharpened feel. I'd rework the sharpening by selecting the bird, sharpening it just a touch less than shown here, and then sharpen the tree much less. What do you think?
What a great bird! Almost classic WP comp with the tree taking 1/3; but I would also like just a tad more space around. Ditto Grace's comments about the sharpening.
What a fabulous bird this is!! Almost cartoonish, especially the eye. Great colours, and I like the overcast light. A bit tight at right, so if you have it I'd add back some there and then top and bottom to retain the ratio.
