During a walk in the woods I could see some leaves fluttering in a small bush due to a bird, so I pished in hopes to see it and ID it. It came popping right up to see what the sound was, and as an added bonus it perched right against a colourful fall backdrop. The one thing I wish here is for the tail to be at least a tad visible, but no such luck.
Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluativemetering, 1/250s., f/6.3, ISO 800 (lucked out as I just snapped away), natural light, handheld, small crop for composition, some brighter highlights in the BG filled in via clone stamp at low opacity, removed bluish cast via Color Balance.
Very nice Daniel. Looks like you were fairly close. The detail, pose and color are all great. The only thing I would consider changing is the leaf outline in the back right of the frame (just make the edges less noticeable)
Love the beutiful fall colour backgroun on this shot, Daniel. I met one of your friends Rick Dobson in Algonquin.
He has very high opinion on your art and on you, as a person.
Daniel Sir:
Wonderful capture of small and cute bird.Love the colorscheme of backdrop and bird, lights and composition.
We have got similar bird with red throat, migratory, not yet arrived.
Daniel I like the bird and background colors but wonder what in the world it means to PISH? Please tell me! The O.A.D. tells me that it's a dated exclamation used to express annoyance, impatience, and disgust. I'm sure it's some kind of birder's slang as well, and I'd really like to know! If I had to guess, I'd venture that it must have to do with making some sort of sound with your lips and mouth, and maybe the sound sounds like pish pish? Please enlighten me!
p.s. As for the invisible tail, I know what you mean, and it's certainly an occasional point of frustration when snapping pictures of birds, but to my eye there's a nifty look to the tail-less bird...makes the creature look otherworldly, especially with those complimentary background colors, or, colours...

Great guess! That's what it is, but without the "i". While clenching your teeth: Psh Psh Psh...
Sweet spontaneous grab shot. The perch has some nice character, and that background....that's a doozy!
Those leaf edges in the background do stand out quite a bit, but more than anything, I just find it unique
looking. Are you sure the bird had a tail? I've seen a number of tail-less blackbirds, sparrows, and warblers
as of late....
