    Default Duba lioness

This is one of the younger females of the larger pride which split a while back. Silver eye, the oldest and most ferocious sided with a couple of others and the male, 'The Prime Minister', the younger, larger group with cubs continue to clash. Sadly both prides were suffering when I was there, the smaller older pride had the skill & knowledge to hunt and take down the Buffalos, but not the numbers. The larger, younger pride had the numbers, but not the skill, so both were incredibly hungry and the cubs looked very thin. These two prides are well known, as they feed on the 'mobile kitchen', the Buffalo!

This female was lying in wait to ambush one of the tail end Buffalos. I need to find out from Brendon C how they are getting on.

    Hi Steve,
IQ as usual good, like the colors and contrast, well balanced the harsh looking light.
Composition looks good to, with a flow from LRC to LHS.
Like the forwarded ears , must have been something interesting in that direction.
Like in your leopard post, i think you lost some sharpness, not much though, just personal feeling.

    Well done Steve.

    Cheers Andreas

Steve - I like the comp, low pov, the stare and open mouth. Light looks a bit harsh though and some of the highlights seem to have lost a little detail, particularly on the side of the face and mouth. I'm not sure if you can recover them any further.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Here you go Andreas with one round more at 70%, my style of sharpening is never the same from one image to the other, some may need more or less, just depends. Hope this answers your ponder.

Rachel, this was shot at 8.42am and even then, the light was strong, but on the final PSD all looks good thanks.

Great POV & detail Steve with lovely IQ. I like the open mouth, the intent look & the fly is a nice touch. I hope the prides are doing better. I would be interested in knowing if you get info from Brendon C.

Well exposed in tough light, Steve...and yes I rue the fact that many of our African locations are only conducive to "friendly" light from sunrise to about 8h30 AM.
Repost is the way to go for my tastes too.
Wonder if it might benefit from a holistic round of a multiplied highlights layer?

Sound all very 'modern & young' Morkel, give it a whirl, always happy to learn new tricks...

RP looks best to my eyes. Really like the low POV here, and you did well handling harsh light. What a bummer that you guys get harsh light so early.

I also prefer the repost. Getting tight with the bright light works for me.

Sharpness looks better in the repost and you handled the conditions well Steve. She treated you to a pretty gnarly glance.

Like the intense expression in this lioness but would be interested to see how a luminosity mask would tame some of the harsher highlights. Nice one.
