Here i do have a tricky image . Was a bit underexposed and backlighted. So no good start.

Would also like to know your thoughts of the angle the was taken, i quite like it.

This elephant came very close to the car and i was leaning out of the window, image taken in Addo Elephant NP in SA.

    Canon EOS 1D MK
    f4 17-40 at 29 mm
    HH

    F 7,1 / 1/125sec / ISO 100

Double processed to handle the dynamic range in RPP + PS ; full frame.

I know it is a bit tight on RHS , nothing i can do about, find it too tricky for canvas extension . I am not sure about the colors, specially in the Spekboom in the BG.

So let the comments flow good or bad.

    Cheers Andreas

Andreas - I quite like the angle. It almost feels as though the ele is about to step on you. There's a nice richness to the colors and good detail. Nicely done.

I really l like this image and the angle. It's a rather unique angle which adds interest. You did well with your PP considering your struggle, and your details are amazing! I would be quite happy with this capture!

Lot I really like - light, foreground, low brush makes him look big,, sky background, perspective wide angle, color, ears out, one foot out, left eye looking at me.
Perhaps only other thing would be to see the tip of its trunk.

Angle is awesome Andreas and backlit conditions don't apear to have been a big problem for you as the sky is nicely exposed. Do I see a slight halo around the top of the head and ears?

Good processing work and I think adding canvas to the right unless done really well would be too obvious.

Nice PP and great view, I would stop sharpening the vegetation in your images if I were you as they always look over sharpened. I myself never sharpen my vegetation only the subject and I would suggest giving it a bash. I really like the sky Andreas!

I'm sure lot of ways to add canvas. My favorite is to first enlarge the canvas. Then using the Lasso Tool rough out the area on the side to be to be expanded. Next using Edit-Transform-Distort expand/stretch that selection out onto the blank canvas. You may have to do a little touch up cloning here-or-there. Last, re-crop the image into the desired size. Here is what I did with yours, added right canvas, all took about 5 min.

Hi Andreas, love the close-up with this, something I have wanted for a long time, but not had the opportunity

Always tricky when subjects are backlit and sometimes you just have to go with the flow or miss the shot and rely on PP. I feel if you are able to remove the Blue cast I think overall, except for the sky, obvious, warm up the tones and with a Curves adjustment just open the face up a fraction things begin to work,. I also dropped a linear mask on everything bar the sky. Basically all adjustments were 'global' except for the sky. Not ideal, but it might hopefully help in another direction to explore. Check it out in PS.

Hi Tom, personally I think the added canvas looks odd, as the bushes look windswept/or have motion blur to them compared to everything else sadly, but worth a try. Andreas, WDYT?

    Great processing on this, Andreas.

I really like Steve's repost, with the warmer skin tones making it a more inviting image

Hi to all for your kind words and help for improving the image.

Steve - like your RP pimped the image, i was thinking could not get further. But there seems to be a way, though i am not sure if it has to be that far.But thanks for showing a direction.

Tom - this is not the way i wanted to go with the canvas extension, not acceptable QUALITY for me. Looks more than odd.

If there is anybody out there , who can make it better , please do so .

    Cheers Andreas

I like it Andreas, but prefer the sky on the OP. Might need to go somewhere in between perhaps on that, (the sky) to balance the new image.

I love elephants at wide angle perspectives. This is great, looks like he's about to step on me...
Love the elephant tones in Steve's repost.
Tom's canvas added does look odd.
Your last RP is great, would just tone down sky a tad, somewhere between OP and RP for me.
    Detail is awesome.
    Cheers!
