Default Hello from Aurora, Colorado (USA)

Hello, BPN members! My name is Jon Rista, a bird and nature photographer from the beautiful state of Colorado. I've only been a photographer for a few years. I really only became a serious photographer this year thanks to a Canon 7D I picked up in December 2011. I originally came from a Canon Rebel XSi, which was great for landscapes, but rather lackluster for anything that needed autofocus. The great AF of the 7D opened up a new door for me this year, and I've fallen in love with bird photography. I have about nine months of bird photography under my belt, and I'm ravenously hungry to learn more about it. I have been following Art Morris' blog Birds As Art on and off since the end of last year, and much more heavily the last few months. I've found numerous great resources from his site, including BPN, as well as a number of other bird photographers who's work I greatly admire (such as Clemens Vanderwerf and Doug Brown) I have a strong understanding of camera technology, theory, etc., but have a lot to learn about technique. I'm hoping I can make some friends here on BPN, learn from those who have more skill than I do, and share my own works and insight.

You can find my blog on my personal photography and photographic journey at WordPress.
You can find my photography at 500px.com. (If you start at the last page in my profile and work forward, you'll basically have a progressive history of my experience with photography (primarily bird photography) from the beginning of 2012.)

Thanks for the welcome, guys. :) I look forward to learning.

On a side note, I went to the Critique forums to post a new thread, however it does not appear that I have permission to attach an image. Is that something I have to request?

Thanks for the link, Steve. I actually read that before I tried to post, however where it says to 'Scroll down to "Additional Options", click on "Manage Attachments"', I don't seem to have the "Manage Attachments" option. I do have some additional options, that's just not one of them.

Hi Jon, you can only add an attachment as a paying forum "Member". Here is the pertinent info for "Forum participants". Hope this helps, if you still have trouble let me know!:

    • Click on "New Thread" in the forum of your choice.Left click the "Insert Image" button in the tool bar

    • After inserting your image, go to your message window and fill in your "Title" then in the "Message Window" give as much info as you can to help those who will critique your image. Jon, only paying members can use BPN's host service. As a forum participant, you'll have to host the image on another website(not sure, but 500px.com might work). The link that Steve gave will then tell you how to post said image here on BPN, just scroll down to where it says "Forum Participants."

PS. Looks like Daniel beat me to it!

Thanks guys. Did not realize there was a pay membership. I might have to sign up for that, but I'll just use an external host for now.
