I'm really fortunate to have my own little "Jamaica Bay" about five minutes from where I live in Duluth, Minnesota.
During each spring and fall migratory period I can find good subjects in a very workable situation. The area is also
muddy and (maybe gross) enough, that nobody else is ever out there. For this image, as with most that I make at
this spot, I'm very much submerged in the water, crawling around....getting close. The only drawback is a consistent
case of duck lice(!), terrible at this spot, and if you itch the bites and they get infected, it gets a bit nasty. Totally worth
it though. SonyA300, Sigma50/500, iso400, f9, 1/1000, cropped, cloned a few specular highlights out of the water,
and removed two dust sensor spots, selective NR to the background, USM. Comments and critiques welcome.
    Regards,
    Shawn Zierman.

A beautiful bird. Sharp, with a good exposure, nice BKGR, and a very sweet raised foot. I wouldn't complain if the bird were a bit farther back on the frame.

When? It looks much to fresh for late SEPT.

You are right (of course), this was made late August 2011....
About the crop...I'm a big Robert Royse fan and admittedly try and emulate his presenation
style at times...this being an example.

nice low angle and good details. I agree with putting a bit more space in the front. I would adjust the WB to reduce the reddish cast from evening light w/o loosing the warm mood of the image, something like this

This is really nice, the light is perfect, I like Arash's version, but the OP is really nice.

Hi Shawn, excellent low angle, and love the raised foot. Good detail on the sandpiper, and I really like the overall colours in the image. I do like the subtle change from Arash.

    Thanks folks.
Arash, I like the color adjustment, particularly how it affected the whites of the bird.
Did you use the cooling filter to do this?

I really like the colors and warm light. I like both posts with a slight preference to the repost. Nice low POV and I like the blues in the FG,

I like both, but with a slight edge to the OP. What I noticed about the image at first are the rich colours and I love them as is. Great low angle, and I like the strand being pulled by the rising foot. Good on you to crawl around in the muck!!

All right Arash, thanks for the feedback....Next question: Is it a "feel" thing? Do you look at an image and
intuitively think too red, or overly warm? Or is it more scientific than that?
